Who’s your printer?

Ragaboo’s preferred printer is Greenerprinter, they print our business cards (left) and our line sheets.  There are several unique aspects to this company, most importantly they only use recycled paper that contains the highest possible percentages of recycled content and sustainably harvested papers.  It’s all processed without the use of chlorine.  Greenerprinter carries  four paper stock choices: a matte finish (Reincarnation), uncoated (Everest), high-gloss (Primavera), and semi-gloss (Sakura).

Recently, Greenerprinter announced that in 2009, they saved over 2,700 fully grown trees.  That’s over 612,000 pounds of wood! They receive eco-audits each year because it reveals the results of their efforts from throughout the year.  Below are 2009′s findings and below that all the results leading up to 2003.

I highly recommend using Greenerprinter for any of your printing needs. Click here to see a list of their products.

Ragaboo now at Rosenblum’s

Rosenblum’s was founded by Frank Rosenblum in 1898, as a pushcart of items in downtown Jacksonville. After the great fire, Frank opened the doors to one of the first men’s clothing stores in Jacksonville.  That store was the first step towards what was soon to be four locations in Jacksonville with Rosenblum’s carrying men’s and ladies clothing, and Frank’s three sons,  Herman, John and Sheldon later joining the business.  By the 1980′s Sheldon’s two sons, Bob and Richard had joined the family business, and Rosenblum’s was operating out of one store.  Through all these changes Rosenblum’s stayed true to their principles of excellent customer service and selection.  In 1996 Rosenblum’s opened the doors to a brand new location on San Jose Boulevard located directly on the St. Johns River, followed by the 2003 opening of their Jacksonville Beach location on Third Street.

We are honored and excited about RAGABOO BAMBOO CLOTHING being a part of Rosenblum’s extensive collection. Here are a few pictures of our displays located at both the San Jose and Jacksonville Beach stores.

Removing Pesticides from Produce

By now, most people are aware of the fact that pesticides cover our fruits and vegetables.  And to combat the toxicity of the  fresh food we love, there are several produce/vegetable washing products and cleansers on the market.  However, I’ve come across two great produce washing  recipes you can make at home. They’re natural and they’ll save you money.

But first, I’d like to share with you a few facts:

1. Bacteria and fungus occur naturally on organic and non organic crops. Even if there is no visible soil on the produce.

2. Think about how many people touch your produce before you buy it.  The thought alone is reason enough to make sure what you’re eating has been properly cleaned.

3. Most agricultural pesticides are not removable with water alone.

4. Even if you are eating produce that needs to be peeled or skinned,  it’s recommended that you wash it first, due to the fact that cutting through it with a knife can carry the outside bacteria into the edible center of the fruit or vegetable.

5. Washing your produce with dish detergent, like many people do, can eventually cause  gastrointestinal upset from soap residue.

Here are two easy, natural and inexpensive recipes to keep the fresh fruits and veggies you love, clean!

Produce Wash 1
- 20 drops grapefruit seed extract, available at health food stores
- 1 Tablespoon baking soda
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1 cup water
- spray bottle

Produce Wash 2
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 Tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 cup water
- spray bottle

Spray produce. Let sit 5-10 minutes and rinse thoroughly to wash away residue.

Ragaboo featured in the Times Union

Ragaboo was thrilled to be featured in the Florida Times Union while at the Nocatee Farmer’s Market. We’ve been at that specific farmer’s market several Saturdays and always have a great time selling our t shirts. Claire and I are pictured each wearing one of our favorite Ragaboo ts, “be the change” and “imagine” .

Have a great day!
